The concept of Kitsch (from the German Kitschen - doing somehow, trash) appeared in the late nineteenth century in Germany. It began to designate serially produced, artistic objects that have low cost and the same low artistic qualities. Simply put, consumer goods. More often, these were statuettes, postcards, pictures "for comfort", souvenirs. Deprived of the creative origin and authenticity inherent in true art, kitsch immediately became an example of bad taste, primitivism and vulgarity.
A little later, Kitsch began to designate a separate style in art. It happened in the "era of change". Any cardinal changes in the life of society (socio-political, economic) are inevitably reflected in all of its spheres - spiritual, including. Art is no exception. There are revolutionary nihilists who deny generally accepted norms and ideals, and change their views on generally accepted classical standards. As a result, as a form of protest to society, new trends arise in art. Thus, the Avangard style emerged, completely rejecting the traditional classical canons, distinguished by the brightness of the color palette and the unusual forms. And with it, and the style of Kitsch, which is essentially the same Avangard style, only brought to the point of absurdity.

Varieties of Kitsch style
Interior design in Kitch style is divided into "spontaneous" (unconscious) and "intentional". Conditionally it can be divided into three areas:
Kitsch lumpen is dictated by poverty. These are off-color furniture, obsolete interior items, cheap knick-knacks. Kitsch lumpen - an indicator of low living standards and non-standard thinking of the author.
A teenage room can also be the place of Kitch's lumpen center. The rebellious spirit and juvenile maximalism can appear here in the form of graffiti, saturated acid colors in the interior. And also in the presence of unusual versatile things, many of which are very unexpected - for example, road signs or lampposts.
The pseudo-luxurious style of Kitsch is an interior design, in which there is a marked desire to emphasize imaginary well-being in any way. This is an interior, in the design of which, instead of natural finishing materials, their imitation is used. This is a room where there are numerous luxury items, often of questionable quality. And this is the interior, which inept designers, wishing to expose the "best show", "stuff" all indiscriminately, while forgetting about the style.
The availability of funds, the use of the most fashionable natural elements of decoration, expensive furniture and rich furnishings, too, do not guarantee that the Kitsch style will not ultimately form. If, for example, in one interior there is a fireplace in the style of Country, expensive oriental vases and modern fluorescent lights, you will get an unconscious pseudo-luxurious Kitsch.
The kitchen and the bedroom are the premises in which the unconscious Kitsch is most often formed. Interior design always requires a professional approach and a sense of proportion.
Designer Kitsch - Intentional. Only it can be considered a true style of interior design. The style is controversial, but, nevertheless, rightfully occupying its own niche in the art of interior design. Style Kitsch is found in the works of many famous designers. Only the most experienced of them can afford to resort to this style. After all, this is a kind of hooliganism, irony, a subtle mockery of the classical canons of design art, provocation. Intentional kitsch style is the ability to combine incongruous. This is "art for art's sake." Kitchen, living room, youth cafe - the most popular places for experiments in the style of Kitsch.
Who chooses the style of Kitsch
Intentional (design) Kitsch is a rare phenomenon. This is a challenge to the established canons and rules, it is a parody of the vestiges of the past, underscoring modern achievements. Use in the interior of Kitch's style can only afford very brave, creative, mostly young, people - rebels in spirit. And they are people who are striving to declare themselves, to attract attention. To this category, we can include the creative elite (bohemia). Designer Kitsch - "bezbashennaya" youth, courage and refined taste.
Kitsch Style Features
Like any other style in the art of interior design, Kitch's style has its own individual characteristics:
Mixing in one interior of different styles
Kitchen is the most common example of such a spontaneous kitsch. This room often represents a "vinaigrette", for example, from the classical style, the style of futurism and country.
Disharmony of color and shapes
Avangard style, as mentioned earlier, gave life to the Kitsch style, and therefore the used color palette and shapes for these two styles seemingly identical. But there is a significant difference. In the interior, executed in the Avant-garde style, there is harmony of color and forms. For example, bright color accents (such as furniture) in the interior always contrast with the light background. And in the style of Kitsch there is a complete absence of any color rules and boundaries! All colors of the spectrum, including acid colors, are used in interior design in Kitch style beyond measure. And strict geometric forms coexist here with formlessness. A real riot of colors and shapes, dissonant with each other!
Combination of incompatible materials
Materials in Kitsch style are used contradictory. Their sharing in any other style would be considered bad form, but not in the style of Kitsch. Czech glass and plastic, velvet and artificial fur, "marble" columns and linoleum, chrome and gilding - everything can be used, and simultaneously.
Use of different furniture
In the style of Kitsch, any furniture can be combined at the same time - modern, rarity, different shapes, different styles, different sets. A bedroom in the style of Kitsch can be the location of an old cheap iron bed and an exquisite dressing table. A kitchen in the same style is the place for an antique buffet, stools of Soviet times and modern built-in appliances. Why not? This is Kitsch style! The main thing here is shocking!
A large number of interior decorations and decor elements
Style kitsch welcomes the presence in the interior of a huge number of decorative details - statuettes and busts, reproductions of paintings and posters, postcards and dolls, candlesticks and watches, delicate napkins and lambrequins, author's souvenirs and consumer goods. It is desirable that all these pleasant knickknacks were many and desirable at once in one place.
So dictates the style of Kitsch - the style of contradictions and creative chaos.
