When choosing tiles for floors and walls, you often encounter many problems: material quality, durability, price. For this reason, when you go to the finishing materials store, you immediately begin to look for the latest innovations in the world of facing material as the most suitable for requirements.
The latest know-how among the finishing materials is quartz vinyl tile, in its direct function it is the facing material for the floor and walls. In addition, it has a wide enough scope, it can be used for finishing the surfaces of bars, night discos, in shops, in the office, in apartments and other premises, as well as in rooms with high humidity, for example, in the bathroom.
The installation of quartz vinyl tiles is made both on the wooden floor and on the concrete surface.
The surface pattern of the tile allows imitating various types of design: marble walls, wood flooring and other ceramic coatings. The basis of the structure of quartz vinyl tile is river sand and shell rock. Both of these materials account for up to seventy percent of the total volume, PVC is used as a binder.
The use of river sand in the tile structure is due to the fact that it is amenable to more thorough cleaning from foreign impurities. In fact, a mixture of PVC, river sand, shell rock form a heterogeneous material consisting of several layers. To give a higher strength, the tile is covered with glass fiber, after which the resulting composition is subjected to hot pressing to form a single whole material.
Positive sides of quartz vinyl tile
Like all facing materials quartz vinyl tile has its pros and cons. The positive side of the tile can be called its unique hardness and wear resistance. During heat treatment, the material is compacted so that it can withstand the weight of the car. The maximum service life of the material is twenty five years.
The second positive quality is the use of an additional material of polyvinyl chloride.
Thanks to the chemical compound, the tile to the touch becomes warmer, that is, in fact there is no feeling of cold from the floor.
The third positive side of the product is its environmental friendliness. As mentioned earlier, natural tile components are part of the tile structure. The chemical used is polyvinylchloride, which is a safe material, and as proof of its harmlessness can be given examples of its use in the production of bags for food, children's toys, medical equipment. Due to harmless materials, harmful chemicals are not released from the tiles even under the influence of high temperature.
The fourth positive factor of quartz vinyl tile is resistance to any chemical compounds, as well as refractoriness: the tile does not contribute to the spread of fire in its composition, it does not release toxins when exposed to an open flame. Such positive qualities as fire resistance and long service life are quite possible to equate to product pluses.
In addition to this, with sudden changes in temperature in the room, the installation of quartz vinyl tiles is not disturbed by the appearance of gaps between the stacked elements. All this allows you to lay tiles in rooms with a constantly changing temperature regime, as well as close to the objects built in the interior of the room, such as plumbing, columns, walls, etc.
The most important advantage of a tile is its interchangeability, i.e. The damaged tile is easy to remove and install a new one. Also, quartz vinyl tile does not conduct an electric current, which allows it to be applied over electrical wires.
Disadvantages of quartz vinyl tile
Among the shortcomings during operation and installation are the following:
- It is not recommended to lay the tile on an open concrete surface without heating, because it becomes colder.
- To glue the tiles, cement mortar can n
ot be used, for this purpose a special glue is used.
- Before laying the tile, the surface of the surface requires an ideal evenness, because due to the small thickness of the material, all surface changes will be visible.
- During operation, crevices may form between the tiles.
Stacking of quartz vinyl tile
Laying tiles, even from an inexperienced specialist, does not cause difficulties, the installation is done by gluing or joining with a lock. In the rest of the technology completely coincides with the laying of ceramic tiles.
First you need to prepare a floor covering. The surface is cleaned of various kinds of dirt, you should also align the curvature of the floor (it should be remembered that quartz floor tiles do not like the differences, they are immediately visible when installing the tiles).
Tiles can be laid on various types of surfaces: concrete, wood, tile, the main thing is that the surface is cleaned (can also be treated with a primer) and dry by the time of installation.
For leveling the floor, you can resort to the following method: if the floor is concrete - pour the self-leveling mortar, then while it is still slightly in the dried state, wipe the screed with a plaster trowel to give smoothness.
Wooden cover is covered with sheets of plywood or chipboard. After that, the joints of the sheets are ground, so that there are no differences.
Having prepared the surface, you should make a breakdown of the room, the main thing is to determine the center of the room. The breakdown is made into four equal sectors, since the installation will be subsequently carried out on them.
By the way of laying, it is possible to distinguish two types of tile installation: glue and glueless (the latter is used if quartz tile with a lock joint). The locking system on the tile is similar to the system installed on the laminate. The elements are joined by means of locks until they click. Tiles with such a stacking system have a number of advantages, it can be easily dismantled with the appearance of a defect and reinstalled.
When laying conventional tiles, glue, contact or dispersion adhesive is used. It is applied to the floor in a fan-like way, even layer, from the far corner to the door. After a single layer is applied, a backing strip is laid, then another layer of glue is applied. The second layer is allowed to dry for about ten minutes, the glue should begin to set.
The process of laying the tiles is made from the center of the room and diverge at the sides. Tiles fit themselves. The tile is laid over the top with a roller. It should be ensured that there are no gaps between the tiles, in the future they can increase. After that it is necessary to remove the surplus of the glue that emerged on the surface, they are easily erased with the help of ethyl alcohol.
After laying, you can immediately walk on the tile, furniture and other heavy things can be put no earlier than six days.
